Google’s water stewardship strategy focuses on three critical areas: enhancing stewardship across our campuses, replenishing the freshwater we consume back to its source watershed, and deploying technology to solve water security challenges.
— Tara Varghese, Global Water Stewardship Lead, Google
The partnership with SWAN Systems will assist the Council to manage its use of water in a much more targeted way and help progress our Net Zero goals of sustainable water use across the community.

Portfolio Reporting
Verified outcomes, not estimates.
You need to know the volume you funded happened. SWAN Systems provides site-level water-use and efficiency data, so what gets reported reflects what was delivered.
Where this fits your reporting
Corporate water reporting increasingly runs through established frameworks — such as CDP’s Water Security disclosure, the Alliance for Water Stewardship’s International Water Stewardship Standard, and volumetric accounting methodologies used across the sector. SWAN provides the underlying site data that supports work within them.
SWAN is deployed across both agricultural and municipal/urban irrigation — from orchards, vineyards and pasture through to council-managed parks and sports fields. In the Colorado River Basin, one of the most water-stressed systems in the US, a SWAN-managed alfalfa trial at Chaffin Farms cut water use by 32% while improving irrigation water-use efficiency by 73%. The water-saving and yield benefits of data-driven irrigation scheduling are well documented in peer-reviewed research.
Community Projects
Local outcomes from your investment
Water use is under increasing public scrutiny. A funded project on its own isn’t always enough to change that. SWAN Systems delivers the irrigation technology and on-ground expertise behind projects at council-managed parks, ovals and public open space, delivered with the council as a partner.
Many councils are working with irrigation infrastructure that’s simply too old to support better scheduling: controllers that can’t take modern instructions, systems overdue for repair. Investment through these projects funds that upgrade, the first step in achieving water savings.
What communities see
• Better-managed, more resilient parks and sporting fields
• Water savings, reported transparently
• A long-term local partnership, not a single transaction
